Job Summary
This position will be fully based in Tenom, Sabah. To oversee the planning, execution, and management of tunnel construction projects utilizing New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). This role requires a deep understanding of NATM principles, construction methodologies, and project management techniques to ensure successful and timely completion of tunneling projects while adhering to safety, quality, and budgetary requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing the construction activities of the NATM tunnelling scope, including project status, schedule, cost control, and change management systems.
- Organise and manage site activities, including subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, client representatives, authorities and ensures safe and effective delivery of the works.
- Reviews and approves internal and external including subcontractor submittals, technical queries, field change documents, and other technical documents.
- Identifies potential risks, develops mitigation strategies, ensures compliance with safety protocols, and leads incident investigations to enhance overall safety on-site.
- Ensure that all tunnelling works comply with relevant specifications, standards, and quality control procedures, and provides technical guidance and training to tunnelling personnel.
- Ensure constant communication with project stakeholders, including clients, local authorities, and community representatives, ensuring transparency, and addressing any concerns.
- Oversees the allocation and utilization of resources, monitors project expenditures, and implements cost control measures to ensure efficient project execution within budget.
- Leads and coordinates input to ensure continuous construction work fronts availability through the review of look-ahead schedules, commodity charts, manning charts, engineering deliverables, material delivery schedules, and other service requirements.
- Stays updated on industry best practices, technological advancements, and continuously seeks opportunities to improve tunnelling techniques, processes, and technologies to enhance project performance and efficiency.
- To comply and adhere to all matters pertaining to Quality, Safety & Health and Environment related to the job scope and work place as required by the Company.
- Any other duties that will be assigned from time to time by the Management.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role, preferably involving NATM tunnelling.
- Must be able to be based in Tenom, Sabah.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong project management skills, including project planning, budget management, and team leadership. In-depth knowledge of tunnelling techniques, NATM operation, and geotechnical considerations.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and provide technical guidance to spearhead the tunnelling operations.
