A consortium between Gamuda Australia and Laing O’Rourke has been awarded the tunnelling contract for the Sydney Metro West project.
We are now seeking a Senior Sustainability Advisor to lead the development and implementation of the projects Sustainability Management System, including strategy, planning, reporting and environmental initiatives.
About the role
As the Senior Sustainability Advisor, you will lead the integration and execution of the project’s sustainability strategy – driving key outcomes across carbon reduction, innovation, and value creation. You will play a pivotal role in achieving a leading IS As-Built rating and embedding sustainability across all project phases.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the development and implementation of the Sustainability Strategy and Sustainability Management Plan.
- Managing and mentoring the sustainability team including a Sustainability Graduate.
- Collaborating with design, construction, and commercial teams to enhance carbon literacy and champion sustainability outcomes.
- Driving the successful integration and delivery of the sustainability strategy, assessments and initiatives including delivery of the IS As-Built rating to a Leading level.
- Reporting performance against project sustainability objectives, targets and Gamuda’s Seeds for Growth strategy.
- Building strong relationships with, and delivering exemplary services to, internal and external stakeholders and clients.
- Responsible for implementation of the Community Benefit Program, ensuring delivery of positive social outcomes aligned with project and community goals.
- Taking ownership of the sustainability outcomes, with a strong focus on decarbonisation, cost efficiency, and delivering net positive social environmental impacts.
About You
You will bring a strong mix of technical sustainability knowledge, practical site experience, and leadership skills. You are passionate about delivering measurable sustainability outcomes on complex infrastructure projects.
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Resource Management or a related field.
- ISAP accreditation (or equivalent) with experience in delivering an IS rating.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in sustainability or environmental roles on major infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience in leading sustainability strategy and compliance within a construction environment.
- Proven leadership, mentoring and stakeholder r engagement skills.
Construction includes the delivery of 9 kilometres of twin, metro rail tunnels between Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park; excavation of new station boxes at Westmead and Parramatta; earthworks, utilities and connecting tunnels for a Maintenance and Stabling Facility at Clyde; a precast concrete segment factory at Eastern Creek; and a services facility, crossover structure and excavation to support tunnelling operations at Rosehill.
