A consortium between Gamuda Australia and Laing O’Rourke has been awarded a contract to start tunnelling on the Sydney Metro West project.
With construction activities well underway, the Gamuda Australia Laing O’Rourke Consortium is looking for a passionate Senior Safety Advisor to implement and drive an accountable and positive safety culture on site.
About the role
- Guide the Construction Team(s) with respect to developing a positive safety culture on Sydney Metro West - Western Tunnel package.
- Advise the Area Safety Mangers, Project Manager(s) and supervisory staff of any identified WHS risks in the workplace along with proposed control measures to minimise exposure.
- Establish, monitor and maintain and communicate current information on legislation, codes of practice, relevant Australia Standards, hazard alerts and industry WHS developments.
- Assist with the development of WHS consultation arrangements with workers and subcontractors, including facilitating, organising and conducting WHS committee meetings and ensuring records of such meetings including recommendations, are maintained.
- Conduct regular inspections and observations of the site including subcontractor activities, to ensure the WHS standards including site safety rules are observed and maintained, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Identify and report any identified changes on the worksite that could affect WHS in the workplace including changes to design, SWMS, plant (fixed and mobile) and organisational changes (to systems, legislation, personnel and work methods).
- Ensure safety inductions occur at the site for all new personnel including all subcontractors
- Participate in the delivery of safety inductions, prestart meetings, toolbox meetings, safety awareness programs and other training and communication forums as required.
- Monitor close outs of hazard inspections, job observations and hazard reports and monitor the on-going effectiveness of controls in collaboration with construction team.
- Monitor and analyse safety results and injury profile data for the sites and implement corrective actions to control identified trends.
- Contribute to the completion of the monthly report.
- Maintain up to date knowledge and application of, legislation, industry standards and technological innovations as relevant to your role.
Your skills and experience
- Tertiary Qualifications in Work Health & Safety.
- Strong understanding of current health and safety legislation, procedures, processes, and best practices.
- Well-developed people management skills that encourages staff to perform at optimum levels without compromising on standards.
- Proven experience working on Tier 1 projects, tunnelling experience is highly advantageous.
Construction includes the delivery of 9 kilometres of twin, metro rail tunnels between Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park; excavation of new station boxes at Westmead and Parramatta; earthworks, utilities and connecting tunnels for a Maintenance and Stabling Facility at Clyde; a precast concrete segment factory at Eastern Creek; and a services facility, crossover structure and excavation to support tunnelling operations at Rosehill.
