The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Grid Connection Engineer to lead grid connection activities for large-scale renewable generation and storage projects across the National Electricity Market (NEM).
Reporting to the Grid Connection Manager, you will take ownership of grid strategy, connection approvals, regulatory compliance and technical delivery from early feasibility through commissioning and registration.
This role requires strong technical depth, regulatory knowledge and stakeholder management capability across AEMO, NSPs and specialist consultants.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead grid connection delivery for renewable energy projects from feasibility through commissioning and registration within the NEM.
• Manage the AEMO connection process, including GPS negotiation, Connection Applications and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee power system studies and grid modelling to support connection approvals and plant design.
• Provide technical input into plant configuration, inverter selection and electrical design to ensure grid compliance.
• Lead commissioning grid compliance activities, including hold point testing and R2 model validation.
• Act as the primary interface with AEMO, NSPs and grid consultants.
• Identify and mitigate grid connection risks impacting project delivery.
• Support internal development and project teams with grid program preparation, connection costing, risk identification and delivery planning.
• Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement of grid processes and standards.
Skills & Experience
• Degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering.
• 3+ years’ experience in grid connection of large-scale renewable (solar, BESS or hybrid) projects in the NEM.
• Demonstrated experience with AEMO connection processes, GPS negotiation and generator registration.
• Strong understanding of NEM, NER and NSP connection requirements.
• Hold point testing and commissioning exposure.
• Hands-on experience with PSCAD, PSS®E and/or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Experience managing or reviewing grid modelling consultants.
• Strong technical reporting and stakeholder engagement capability.
