Job Description:

About Us
Gamuda Engineering is a leading engineering and construction contractor specialising in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of major Transport, Civil, and Energy Infrastructure projects.

In Australia, our footprint is expanding rapidly through key Sydney Metro packages - including the Western Tunnelling Package and Stations Package West (SPW), delivering integrated station box excavation and infrastructure at Parramatta and Westmead - alongside major road upgrades like the Richmond Road Upgrade (RRM7) and landmark joint ventures.

As our business grows, we remain focused on attracting top talent to build a culture destined for an employer of choice.

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor based in Sydney to join our project delivery team. Reporting to the Environmental Manager, you will play a hands-on leadership role in driving environmental compliance, operational risk controls, and sustainability outcomes across active urban infrastructure workfronts - focusing on the Parramatta Integrated Station Development (ISD) and key road infrastructure works.

In this site-aligned role, you will work closely with engineering design, site construction delivery, and client teams to ensure operations comply with NSW environmental legislation, planning approvals, and project management plans.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Oversee the site-level implementation and continuous improvement of project Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), monitoring programs, and environmental management systems.•    Lead the inspection, maintenance, and monitoring of erosion and sediment controls (ERSED), water quality/discharge, noise/vibration, and dust management across urban workfronts, station box excavation, and road corridors.
•    Provide expert operational and regulatory advice regarding compliance with NSW environmental legislation, planning approvals, licence conditions, and Transport for NSW / Sydney Metro requirements.
•    Lead investigations into environmental incidents and unexpected finds (including contamination or unexpected utility interactions), identifying root causes, developing corrective action plans, and preparing statutory reports.
•    Conduct regular environmental audits and site inspections of subcontractors and suppliers, maintaining accurate compliance registers to always ensure audit readiness.
•    Liaise with clients, local authorities, and utility partners - including Sydney Water interfaces - to coordinate approvals, environmental controls, and site compliance.
•    Monitor and report on key environmental metrics, including waste classification and diversion, water usage, and carbon emissions, to satisfy client reporting obligations.
•    Mentor site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors to promote environmental awareness and embed a strong, proactive sustainability culture across all active workfronts.

Your skills and experience•    Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
•    3+ years of experience as an Environmental Advisor or Senior Environmental Advisor on major civil, road, rail, or station infrastructure projects.
•    Proven track record working on complex urban infrastructure sites—experience spanning station developments/excavation, roadworks, or TfNSW projects is ideal.
•    Prior experience working on or interfacing with Sydney Water infrastructure or utility re-instatement projects is highly desirable.
•    Thorough understanding of NSW environmental legislation, planning approvals processes, ERSED management, waste classification, and contamination management.
•    Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to influence site teams and build collaborative relationships with clients and regulatory bodies.

What we Offer
•    Opportunity to work on city-shaping infrastructure projects across Sydney, including the landmark Parramatta ISD.•    A collaborative, high-performing corporate and project delivery environment.
•    Clear technical and leadership career progression opportunities.
•    Flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
