About the role
Working as part of the project commercial team, you will play a key role in the commercial and contractual management of the project. You will work closely with the Commercial Manager, Project Manager, Project Engineers and subcontractors to ensure contractual obligations are effectively managed, risks are identified and commercial outcomes are achieved.
This is a hands-on project role, with responsibility for managing subcontractor packages, procurement, variations, claims, payment assessments and contractual correspondence throughout the project lifecycle.
Specific activities will include:
- Manage the administration of subcontract packages, including contractual correspondence, payment claims, variations, extensions of time, notices and claims.
- Support the procurement, tendering and negotiation of subcontractor packages across civil and roadworks.
- Review subcontractor claims, variations and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Monitor project costs, forecasts and financial performance, providing accurate commercial reporting to the project leadership team.
- Identify and manage commercial and contractual risks, ensuring issues are proactively addressed.
- Assist with the preparation and assessment of commercial submissions, claims and contractual notices.
- Work closely with Project Engineers, construction teams and subcontractors to resolve commercial issues and support project delivery.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and support to Contracts Administrators and junior members of the commercial team.
Your Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- 7+ years’ experience in contract administration or commercial management roles within the construction industry.
- Demonstrated experience working on major road, highways or civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of Australian construction contracts, procurement processes and commercial principles.
- Experience managing subcontractor packages, variations, claims and contractual negotiations.
- Strong analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across project teams and external stakeholders.
