A consortium between Gamuda Australia and Laing O’Rourke has been awarded a contract to start tunnelling on the Sydney Metro West project.

 

The Gamuda Australia Laing O’Rourke Consortium is looking for a passionate Safety Advisor to implement and drive an accountable and positive safety culture on site.

 

About the role

  • Provide support, coordination and advice of Health and Safety practices, systems and processes for areas of work.
  • Providing specialist advice and assistance to managers and supervisors and advocate for positive work health and safety change.
  • Facilitate the efficient operation of safe management systems by providing managers with support and guidance.
  • Ensure the project team are aware and adhere to safe working processes, legislation and policies relevant to the workplace environment, activities, equipment and materials.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and unsafe conditions to determine possible causes and recommend remedial actions.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and monitoring of work areas and conduct audits and inspections.
  • Monitor trends in accidents and incidents through data analysis and insights and providing reports to the safety manager.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies, clients and other stakeholders to ensure proactive engagement and achieve compliance. 
  • Prepare presentation and training material and reports for internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Monitor and provide advice and training for compliance to support the effective implementation of WHS legislation, policies and procedures. 

 

Your skills and experience

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Work Health & Safety. 
  • Strong understanding of current health and safety legislation, procedures, processes, and best practices. 
  • Well-developed people management skills that encourages staff to perform at optimum levels without compromising on standards.
  • Proven experience working on Tier 1 projects, Road Header tunnelling experience is highly advantageous.

 

Construction includes the delivery of 9 kilometres of twin, metro rail tunnels between Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park; excavation of new station boxes at Westmead and Parramatta; earthworks, utilities and connecting tunnels for a Maintenance and Stabling Facility at Clyde; a precast concrete segment factory at Eastern Creek; and a services facility, crossover structure and excavation to support tunnelling operations at Rosehill.
