About the Project:
The New South Wales (NSW) Government has appointed Gamuda Engineering, to deliver the Sydney Metro West - Stations Package West, a vital component of the broader Sydney Metro project. The package contract includes the design and construction of five new metro stations along the Sydney Metro West alignment: Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, and The Bays.
Gamuda will act as the Principal Contractor for the project, while Laing O’Rourke and Gamuda Group’s wholly owned subsidiary, DT Infrastructure, will join as delivery partners. Planning and detailed design are expected to commence in January 2026, with major construction starting by late 2026 and completion by 2031.
About the Role:
Gamuda is seeking a motivated and experienced Safety Advisor to join our team on the Sydney Metro West – Stations Package West (SPW) project, one of Australia’s largest and most complex infrastructure developments.
Reporting to the Safety Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting the safe delivery of construction works across multiple station sites. This is a hands-on, site-based role focused on driving a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance, and partnering with delivery teams to manage risk effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day safety support to construction teams across multiple work fronts
- Promote a strong safety culture aligned with Gamuda’s values and project objectives
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety walks to identify hazards and ensure compliance
- Monitor high-risk construction activities and verify critical controls are implemented
- Assist in the preparation and review of SWMS, risk assessments, and safety documentation
- Lead or support incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Track and close out non-conformances and improvement actions
- Deliver toolbox talks, pre-starts, and safety briefings
- Engage and influence subcontractors to meet project safety standards
- Support reporting requirements, including safety KPIs and project metrics
About You:
You are a proactive and confident safety professional with strong site experience and the ability to engage effectively with frontline teams. You bring a practical approach to safety, balancing compliance with operational delivery.
Qualifications Skills & Experience:
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (minimum)
- Diploma or higher qualification in WHS (desirable)
- Construction White Card (essential)
- ICAM or equivalent investigation training (highly regarded)
- 3–5+ years’ experience in a Safety Advisor role within civil or infrastructure construction
- Experience on major projects (rail, tunnelling, or large-scale infrastructure highly regarded)
- Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and industry standards
- Demonstrated experience in incident investigation and risk management
- Ability to influence and build relationships with site teams and subcontractors
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
