About the Project & Consortium

Gamuda Engineering is a global engineering and construction leader specialising in the design, delivery, and maintenance of large-scale transport, civil, and energy infrastructure. In Australia, our footprint is expanding rapidly; we are currently delivering major packages for Sydney Metro (including the Western Tunnelling Package and the Stations Package West) alongside significant joint-venture projects such as the $1.35B Coffs Harbour Bypass and the $1B M1 Motorway Extension Southern Package.

In an exciting new milestone, a consortium led by Gamuda Engineering, alongside Gamuda and MTR Corporation, has been awarded the contract to design and construct the new Parramatta Metro Station, its surrounding precinct, and the integrated developments above and adjacent to the station as part of Sydney Metro West.

About the Role

As the SESA Manager, you will hold primary accountability for the development, implementation, and management of the Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance frameworks across the entire lifecycle of the Parramatta Station Development Project.

This high-impact role spans the station design, precinct civil works, and complex over-station and adjacent-station integrated developments. You will lead a multidisciplinary SESA team to ensure all systems are fully integrated, verified, and safely assured in compliance with Sydney Metro standards, the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) requirements, and Australian legislation.

Key Responsibilities & Activities

Providing strategic leadership for the project’s Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance Management Plans, ensuring alignment with ISO 15288 and EN 50126 standards.
Leading the Safety Assurance process, including Hazard Identification (HAZID), Hazard Operability (HAZOP) studies, Quantified Risk Assessments (QRA), and the robust management of the project Hazard Log.
Overseeing Systems Engineering lifecycle activities, including requirements elicitation, allocation, traceability (utilising tools such as IBM Rational DOORS), and Interface Management across civil, structural, and station systems.
Developing and presenting System Safety Cases and Safety Assurance Arguments to obtain necessary approvals from the client (Sydney Metro), the Independent Safety Assessor (ISA), and the ONRSR.
Directing Verification & Validation (V&V) activities to provide independent verification that all design and construction deliverables meet contractual, technical, and safety requirements.
Managing the interface between our design partners, construction delivery teams, and consortium partner MTR Corporation to resolve technical and safety-in-design issues.
Representing the consortium in technical SESA forums with the client, regulatory bodies, and external utility and transport authorities.

Your Skills & Experience

You will be a collaborative, technically rigorous leader with a proven track record of delivering safety-critical systems on major, high-profile rail, metro, or transit-oriented development projects.

Specifically, you will bring:

Tertiary qualifications in Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (or a related technical discipline).
Significant experience (10+ years) in SESA/RAMS roles within major infrastructure, with a strong preference for Tier 1 rail or metro projects in Australia.
Deep working knowledge of rail safety standards and frameworks, including EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, and the Asset Standards Authority (ASA) / AMDB frameworks in NSW.
Demonstrated experience in Safety-in-Design (SiD), hazard log management, and developing successful System Safety Cases through to client and regulatory sign-off.
Advanced proficiency in requirements management platforms (e.g., DOORS) and systems integration methodologies.
Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to influence senior executives, project directors, clients, and Independent Safety Assessors.
