This is a unique opportunity to join a major international construction and engineering business that has enjoyed significant growth and success within the Australian market and is focussed on expanding into new regions and market sectors including the burgeoning renewable energy market. As a legal counsel you will be exposed to major D&C projects, EPC, PPP and development opportunities as well as M&A transactions
As part of Gamuda’s commitment to expansion, Gamuda Engineering has established offices in Sydney and Brisbane to pursue and deliver a variety of construction projects. We are currently delivering the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package and in joint venture partnerships delivering both the $1.35B Coffs Harbour Bypass and the $1bn M1 Motorway Extension Southern Package.
The Role
Working across our national portfolio of projects you will work closely with our General Counsel and Senior Counsel providing legal, commercial and compliance advice and support across a broad range of matters including precontracts, projects in delivery and M&A opportunities. This will include:
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating major construction and engineering contracts including D&C, EPC, Alliance, PPP and JV agreements.
• Providing risk allocation, claims management and dispute avoidance advice to project delivery and commercial teams.
• Supporting M&A opportunities providing advice on corporate structuring, sale and purchase agreements and regulatory compliance.
• Assisting with corporate and operational governance, compliance and policy.
• Managing external counsel where needed ensuring cost-efficient solutions.
Your skills & experience
You will have tertiary qualifications in Law and a Practicing Certificate in NSW along with ideally 5+ years post qualification experience in construction and engineering law within a leading law firm or in-house environment. Your specific skills and experience will include:
• Experience working on major infrastructure projects including transport and civil infrastructure.
• Significant working knowledge of major government departments and contracts.
• Strong drafting, review and negotiation skills including an ability to manage high-value transactions.
• Excellent commercial acumen and the ability to provide strategic legal advice in a fast-paced environment across multiple projects.
