About the role
As the Environment and Sustainability Advisor, you will play a vital role in driving environmental compliance and sustainability outcomes across major infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with project teams to embed best practice management, monitor performance on site, and support innovative solutions that reduce environmental impacts.
This is a hands-on position that blends technical expertise, compliance oversite, and stakeholder engagement, offering the opportunity to make a tangible contribution to building more sustainable infrastructure.
Specific activities will include:
• Support the development and implementation of project-specific environmental and sustainability management plans and procedures.
• Provide practical advice to project teams on compliance with approvals, legislation, and sustainability frameworks.
• Conduct site inspections and audits to monitor compliance, sustainability performance, and identify areas for improvement.
• Implement and monitor erosion and sediment controls (ERSED) and other site environmental measures.
• Assist with contamination management, unexpected finds, and incident response.
• Monitor and report on key environmental aspects such as waste, water, air, noise, flora, fauna, and energy use.
• Track resource use (fuel, energy, water) and support initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce impacts.
• Collect and validate data to meet Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating requirements and client KPIs.
• Support innovation trials, including testing of recycled aggregates, low-carbon concrete, and biodegradable erosion control products.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records, registers, and compliance documentation, and deliver training and toolbox talks to raise awareness.
Your skills and experience
• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
• Sound knowledge of NSW environmental legislation and sustainability frameworks, with experience on major infrastructure projects, Sydney Water experience is highly regarded.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, advise, and deliver training effectively.
• Well-developed organisational and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on practical solutions and continuous improvement.
