About the role
As the Design Engineer you will facilitate design delivery and technical interface management between design consultancies, site delivery teams, and key client stakeholders.
Reporting to the Design Manager, you will coordinate technical design packages, resolve site design queries, manage temporary works and utility interfaces, and ensure design deliverables meet project timelines, quality standards, and Safety in Design requirements.
Specific activities will include:
- Coordinate the development, review, and release of detailed design packages, drawings, and technical specifications for civil roadworks, structures, drainage, and utilities.
- Manage technical interfaces between external design consultancies, site engineering teams, specialist subcontractors, and client representatives.
- Facilitate constructability reviews, Value Engineering, and Safety in Design (SiD) workshops to optimize construction methodologies.
- Coordinate the review and resolution of Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, design variations, and field change sheets.
- Manage temporary works design processes and coordinate utility authority approvals to support project delivery schedules.
- Monitor design progress against milestones, tracking deliverable schedules and design review comment registers.
Your Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- 4+ years’ experience in a Design Engineer or Site Engineer role within civil infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience on major road, highway, earthworks, or heavy civil infrastructure projects (TfNSW experience highly regarded).
- Solid understanding of civil design principles, TfNSW specifications, Australian Standards, and Safety in Design (SiD) requirements.
- Proven track record coordinating external design consultancies and resolving site-based technical challenges.
- Exposure to temporary works, utility design coordination, and CAD/BIM review tools (e.g., AutoCAD, 12D Model, Navisworks).
- Excellent communication, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
