About the role
As the Commercial Manager, you will play a critical role in the front-end of major infrastructure projects, leading pre-contract and tendering activities that set projects up for success. You will be responsible for driving commercial strategy, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated, and supporting the preparation and negotiation of competitive bids and contracts. This role requires both technical expertise and strong leadership to provide commercial assurance across all phases of the project lifecycle.


Specific activities will include:
•    Preparing, coordinating, and submitting tender documents and comprehensive bid proposals, including pricing strategies, commercial terms, and draft contracts.
•    Reviewing and analysing tender documentation, invitations to bid, and client specifications to identify risks, opportunities, and compliance requirements.
•    Leading negotiations on tender terms, head contracts, subcontracts, and supplier agreements in line with Australian standards to ensure commercial strength and risk mitigation.
•    Providing commercial advice and strategic input to senior management and project teams to support decision-making.
•    Overseeing subcontractor and supplier selection, awards, and contract administration, including payment applications, claims, and dispute resolution.
•    Mentoring and guiding contract administrators, sharing best practice in pre-contract processes and commercial management.
•    Supporting the development and implementation of commercial management policies, systems, and procedures to enhance efficiency and governance.

Your skills and experience
•    Degree in Engineering, Business, Commerce, Contract Law, or related discipline.
•    Extensive experience (10+ years) in commercial and contract management on major infrastructure projects.
•    Strong background in tendering, procurement, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution, with knowledge of Australian standards.
•    Proven ability to identify and manage commercial risks while developing competitive pricing and bid strategies.
•    Experience working in Joint Venture project environments (highly regarded).
•    Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build positive relationships.
•    Highly organised, methodical, and able to manage competing deadlines effectively.
