THE ROLE

 

Reporting to the project Safety Manager we are seeking a dynamic Senior Safety Advisor with experience in Renewables and or major infrastructure projects to join our team on a major Solar Farm project in the NSW Upper Hunter Valley. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and supportive team.

You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with local H&S management plans, regularly review risk registers, and implement programs stipulated in the DTI H&S plans, together with H&S Integrated Management System (IMS) implementation. You will collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure a safe work environment.
This is a Site-based position (DIDO) on a major renewable energy construction project with a rostered working arrangement (14/7), with accommodation and allowances provided as applicable. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Coach operational teams with sub-contractor management requirements including review of SWMS, ATWPs, completion of DTI and site inductions, participation in pre-starts, conduct of daily plant check sheets and compliance with HSMPs
  • Assist with H&S project training and communication requirements for workers and contractors which may include (but not be limited to) site specific inductions, S.T.A.R processes, incident reporting & investigations, cardinal rules, emergency procedures and verification of competencies (VOC's).
  • Undertake field observations and inspections of pre-starts, work method statements, authority to work permits (ATWPs), high risk work processes, documentation, equipment/vehicles and work sites in accordance with DTI H&S IMS requirements
  • Assist with processes to ensure all employees are in a fit state to work and not under the influence of drugs or alcohol i.e. health surveillance and health monitoring.
  • Partner with operations to prepare for IMS audits and external third party audits.
  • Support operations to ensure corrective actions developed, assigned and closed out. Preparation of H&S reports for stakeholders and H&S Manager, including timely updates regarding progress against pre-determined HSE objectives and initiatives

About You

  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in health, Safety & Environment, Business or similar discipline essential
  • Degree in health, Safety & Environment, Business or similar discipline preferred
  • Certificate 4 Workplace Health and Safety
  • Drivers’ license (C class) essential
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessing or similar desirable
  • Quality/Safety Lead Internal Auditor or similar desirable
  • Lead ICAM Incident Investigation or similar desirable
  • Return to work coordinator certificate
  • Knowledge of applicable statutory provisions across multiple jurisdictions
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in a HSE practitioner role
  • Experience conducting audits and preparation of corrective actions and reports Preparation and delivery of various HSE Awareness or Training Programs
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
