About the role
As Senior Development Manager, you will lead the development of large-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects from origination through to financial close. You will provide leadership across complex project portfolios, drive commercial and technical outcomes, and manage key stakeholder relationships to ensure successful project execution. This is an opportunity to play a senior role within a growing renewable energy business, influencing project strategy and mentoring developing team members.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the full lifecycle development of renewable energy projects, including origination, due diligence, feasibility assessment, development approvals, and progression to financial close.
- Provide strategic leadership across multiple projects and development activities, ensuring alignment with business objectives and investment priorities.
- Lead and manage multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors, and suppliers to achieve high-quality commercial, technical, and development outcomes.
- Oversee the negotiation and securing of land agreements, development approvals, grid connection processes, and key commercial agreements including land leases, OEM, EPC, and other project delivery contracts.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, risks, and governance requirements, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with investors, partners, regulators, landowners, community stakeholders, and internal leadership teams.
- Lead engagement with financing partners and support the negotiation and securing of PPA’s and project financing arrangements.
- Provide strategic input into site selection, acquisition opportunities, investment valuations, and market analysis to support business growth.
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior development staff, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth within the team.
Skills and experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Business, Commerce, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience delivering large-scale renewable energy projects (solar, wind, BESS) across multiple stages of the development lifecycle through to financial close.
- Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated experience managing complex stakeholder negotiations, contracts, and development approvals.
- In-depth understanding of renewable energy technologies, grid connection processes, project assessment, due diligence, and investment analysis.
- Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and coordinating internal and external stakeholders across complex projects.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects within a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Willingness to undertake domestic travel as required to support project development and stakeholder engagement.
