Gamuda Engineering is a reputable Engineering and Construction contractor that specialises in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Transport, Civil and Energy Infrastructure projects. We are currently delivering the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package, Sydney Metro – Stations Package West and in joint venture partnerships for both the $1.35B Coffs Harbour Bypass and the $1B M1 Motorway Extension Southern Package.

About the role

As the Senior Commercial Manager, you will shape the commercial direction of major transport, civil and renewable energy projects from the earliest stages. You will lead commercial strategy, market engagement, and tender development to ensure projects are commercially sound, competitive, and positioned for success.

You will lead all front-end commercial and pre-contract activities, providing strategic oversight of bid development, risk allocation, pricing strategy, and contractual structuring across complex, multi-disciplinary projects within the Australian infrastructure market.

Specific activities will include:

  • Lead the development and submission of EOIs, RFQs, and RFTs across civil, transport, and renewable infrastructure projects, including pricing strategies, bid documentation, and draft contractual arrangements.
  • Review and interpret technical, design, and interface requirements to identify commercial risks, opportunities, and compliance obligations.
  • Lead high-level negotiations for head contracts, alliance/JV arrangements, early works agreements, and key subcontractor and supplier packages.
  • Provide strategic commercial advice and recommendations to senior executives, project directors, and bid leadership teams.
  • Oversee early contractor involvement, procurement strategy, and key supplier engagement to ensure optimal commercial and delivery outcomes.
  • Mentor and develop commercial and pre-contract team members, fostering a high-performance and best-practice culture.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of commercial frameworks, governance, and risk management practices across the business.

 

Your skills and experience

  • Degree in Law, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Commerce, or related discipline.
  • 15+ years’ experience in legal, commercial or contract management, with strong exposure to front-end, precontracts, tendering, or early-stage project development.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure contracting models, including Australian standards and common project delivery frameworks.
  • Proven capability in developing commercial strategies, pricing structures, and risk mitigation plans for complex bids.
  •  Experience in Joint Venture or partnership environments (highly regarded).
  •  Exceptional negotiation, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Highly organised, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
