Job Summary

The Quantity Surveyor - Contracts & Commercial is responsible for managing all costs and financial aspects of construction projects, from initial feasibility through to final account settlement. This role plays a critical part in ensuring financial viability, contractual adherence, and optimal value for money. The Quantity Surveyor works closely with project teams, procurement, and finance, providing accurate cost estimates, forecasts, and commercial insights, thereby mitigating financial risks and contributing to project profitability. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil/construction projects at various stages (conceptual, preliminary, detailed design, tender), analyzing drawings, specifications, and scope. Conduct thorough quantity take-offs for all elements of the project (materials, labor, plant, subcontractors). 

  • Obtain and analyze competitive quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure accurate pricing. Support the tendering and bidding process by providing comprehensive cost breakdowns and commercial input. 

  • Participate in value engineering exercises to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or functionality. Implement and manage robust cost control systems to track actual project expenditures against approved budgets and forecasts. 

  • Monitor project progress and forecast costs to complete (Estimate to Complete - ETC, Estimate at Completion - EAC), identifying potential cost overruns or savings. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. 

  • Professional certification (e.g., RICS, CIOB, or local Quantity Surveying professional body membership) is highly desirable. 

  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and project lifecycle. 

  • Proficiency in cost estimation software (e.g., CostX, Candy, CCS) and advanced Microsoft Excel for financial modeling and analysis. 

Skills & Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of cost estimation techniques, quantity take-off methods, cost control principles, and commercial management practices in construction projects. 

  • Exceptional ability to analyze complex data, perform detailed calculations, identify financial trends and variances, and provide actionable insights. 

  • Strong understanding of contractual terms, risk assessment, and value optimization in a project environment. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex financial information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences. 

Expected Minimum Years of Experience

3 Years and above in relevant working experience
