Job Description:
Job Summary
To design and engineer robust Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems for large-scale infrastructure and Metro projects. This role involves taking ownership of the building services electrical scope including lighting, power distribution, building management system, security system, while managing the critical interfaces with external electrical services and external utility providers (e.g., TNB, Sydney Water, or local equivalents) to ensure seamless utilities connectivity for major assets.
Key Responsibilities
1. LV & ELV System Design
- Power Distribution: Design comprehensive LV distribution networks, including Main Switchboards (MSB), Sub-boards, and final circuit layouts for stations, tunnels, and operations buildings.
- ELV Systems: Develop detailed designs for Extra Low Voltage services, including CCTV, Access Control, Public Address (PA), Fire Detection & Alarm Systems (FDAS), and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Lighting & Small Power: Perform lighting calculations (using Dialux or similar) and design emergency/exit lighting systems in compliance with safety standards for public infrastructure.
- Technical Analysis: Conduct cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, and short-circuit analysis to ensure system reliability and safety.
2. External Utility & Infrastructure Integration
- Utility Liaison: Manage the coordination with external utility authorities for permanent power applications, substation requirements, and street lighting relocations.
- External Services: Design and coordinate underground electrical pit-and-pipe networks and external site wide reticulation.
- Interface Management: Ensure the "point of attachment" between utility providers and project assets is clearly defined and meets all regulatory technical standards.
3. Metro & Project Delivery
- Metro Specialization: Address specific electrical requirements for rail environments, including earthing and bonding systems to mitigate stray currents and EMI/EMC issues.
- BIM Coordination: Utilize Revit/BIM to coordinate electrical containments (cable trays, conduits) with mechanical ductwork and hydraulic piping to ensure a clash-free installation.
- Tender Support: Prepare technical specifications, schedules of prices, and Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for electrical packages during the bidding phase.
4. Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Standards Adherence: Ensure all designs comply with local codes (e.g., Suruhanjaya Tenaga), international standards (IEC), and specifically Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000) for ANZ-based projects.
- Review & Audit: Review consultant drawings and shop drawings for technical accuracy, constructability, and adherence to Gamuda’s quality benchmarks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Dialux, and electrical modeling software (e.g., ETAP or PowerCAD).
Skills & Abilities
- Proven experience in the design and management of external utility service applications, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), and street lighting systems, as well as infrastructure interface coordination, is highly advantageous.
- Experience in Metro, Rail, or heavy infrastructure is highly preferred.
Expected Minimum Years of Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years in electrical building services design, with a focus on LV and ELV.
