Job Summary
Gamuda is seeking a Contract & Commercial Manager to join the Australia offshore contract and commercial services based at the Gamuda headquarters. In this role, you will lead a team of Quantity Surveyors, overseeing daily contract and commrecial operations and ensuring seamless integration with project and tender teams in Australia.
This role will be responsible for managing and administering pre and post contract administration duties which include project development following award of privatisation concessions, providing advice and guidance on administration procedures, preparation of tender documentation and evaluation, preparation of sub-contract / supply agreement, variations, contractual claims and settlement of final account.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Contract Stage
- Review and update sub-contract conditions to reflect the latest contractual, statutory, and project-specific requirements.
- Vet and provide advice on project-related agreements and tender documentation prepared by others.
- Provide timely and sound contractual advice to project teams and relevant stakeholders.
- Draft straightforward contractual agreements and supplementary documents as required.
Post-Contract Stage
- Implement and ensure adherence to quality procedures in the procurement of sub-contractors and other contractual support services.
- Identify, evaluate, and finalise the pre-qualification of sub-contractors in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process for sub-contractors, including tendering, evaluation, and award.
- Monitor and coordinate the preparation, execution, and administration of sub-contract documents.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager, Design & Technical, and Tender & Budget teams on the preparation and submission of contractual claims and variation orders to Government agencies and concession companies.
- Maintain proper documentation and records of claims and related correspondences.
- Provide contractual input for third-party agreements and monitor compliance with all contractual obligations.
- Draft and review contractual correspondences, ensuring clarity and compliance with project and legal requirements.
- Evaluate and advise on the validity of claims submitted by sub-contractors, and assist in preparing defences against such claims.
- Review and vet legal instruments such as Deeds of Assignment and Novation Agreements.
- Attend project and coordination meetings as required.
- Supervise and provide guidance to Quantity Surveyors / Contract Executives.
- Undertake any other tasks as directed by the Senior Manager.
Qualifications
- Applicants should hold a degree in a relevant discipline, such as Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or Engineering, or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional competency alongside substantial experience in infrastructure projects.
Skills & Abilities
The successful candidate must possess an exceptional command of both written and spoken English to effectively draft contractual correspondence and complex commercial reports for a diverse range of stakeholders. They should be proficient in leading and participating in virtual project meetings across different time zones, ensuring that all remote communication remains clear, professional, and concise.
Expected Minimum Years of Experience
- The successful candidate will possess more than 10 years of experience in a contract and commercial or quantity surveying role, specifically in the construction and engineering indusry for large infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of managing high-value, complex projects from the initial tender stage through to project completion.
- Experience in developing and implementing robust commercial strategies designed to maximise project margins while ensuring consistent cash flow management.
- Demonstrated ability to act as the primary commercial point of contact, maintaining professional and collaborative relationships with clients, subcontractors, and legal.
- Prior experience with international projects, particularly in Australian construction projects, is highly regarded but not mandatory.
