About the role

 

DT Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Design Engineer - Signalling to join DT Infrastructure and Alstom in delivering the $1.6B contract for Perth's High-Capacity Signalling Project. The project includes the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the new Automatic Train Control System to replace the existing signalling and train control systems in Perth. 

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and delivering high-quality engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for signalling power and Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Prepare and review design drawings, power calculations, models, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including signalling, LV electrical, communications, civil, and structures.
  • Conduct site inspections, surveys, constructability reviews, and interdisciplinary design reviews (IDR).
  • Ensure design compliance with Safety in Design (SiD), WHS legislation, environmental obligations, and ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Undertake technical risk assessments, value engineering sessions, and support procurement and construction phases.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to clarify technical requirements and resolve design queries.

 

1 Experience and capabilities

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience in electrical infrastructure design engineering, specifically Low Voltage/Extra-Low Voltage or Signalling Power.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian rail operational environments, Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/RISSB), and Rail Authority guidelines (e.g., PTA WA).
  • Proficiency with design and drafting software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of engineering design processes, Safety in Design, and quality management systems.
  • Eligibility for Engineers Australia Chartered Status (CPEng/RPEQ) and Rail Industry Worker (RIW) accreditation preferred.
