The Role
Due to growth we are seeking a highly capable professional to lead and manage the Utilities function across current and future projects. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the successful planning, design, coordination, and delivery of utility-related workstreams.
You will hold overall accountability for strategic utility management, stakeholder engagement, commercial performance, risk management, and team leadership. Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and overall accountability for the Utilities function across projects
- Develop and implement utility management strategies aligned with business objectives, client requirements, and project delivery outcomes.
- Provide governance and oversight of utility approval pathways, service relocations, protection works, utility agreements, and third-party interfaces.
- Provide strategic input into tender submissions, project bids, delivery methodologies, and business development initiatives to support organizational growth.
- Ensure 100% compliance with contractual obligations, legislative requirements, industry standards, and organizational governance frameworks.
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of all utility activities throughout project lifecycles, ensuring seamless integration with design, construction, commercial, and operational workstreams.
- Take full accountability for utility-related commercial performance, including forecasting, budgeting, cost control, claims, variations, dispute resolution, and opportunity management.
- Oversee the preparation and review of utility estimates, business cases, construction methodologies, and project execution plans.
- Review project performance metrics, implement corrective actions, and lead investigations into significant incidents or non-conformances.
- Direct the identification, assessment, and mitigation of utility-related risks and opportunities.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with utility authorities, government agencies, clients, contractors, and key stakeholders.
- Act as the senior escalation point for complex utility, commercial, stakeholder, and delivery issues.
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise on utility engineering, authority requirements, and industry best practices.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in utility management systems, standards, processes, and delivery methodologies.
- Champion a culture of accountability, safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement, ensuring we always develop our people and walk the talk.
About You
- Degree Qualified with 10+ years of utilities/infrastructure experience, encompassing major project leadership, commercial management, stakeholder engagement, and team management.
- Demonstrable and successful experience in a business or project operations management role gained at a similar level.
- General and operational management experience with the capability to develop business plans, implement an effective and empowered organizational structure, and take delivery responsibility.
- Strong project planning and management skills, with a proven ability to lead and inspire teams.
- Extensive experience preparing, analyzing, and developing tender documentation and estimates.
- Ability to contribute to the preparation of operational budgets and review financial information.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively build relationships with key stakeholders and develop new business opportunities.
- Experience in researching and understanding complex information to develop and implement business solutions.
- Ability to review and develop new processes and streamline transactional activities.
- Working knowledge and understanding of OH&S and employee relations legislation.
