About the role


DTI are delivering ongoing rail maintenance to support Fortescue's rail network and are now hiring Senior Health & Safety Advisors to support the North West Rail team in providing expertise in rail maintenance with a commitment to improve asset health and provide first-class track maintenance for our clients. The North West Rail team will provide specialised track enhancement activities and proactive maintenance management planning to support the structural integrity and continued safe operations of Fortescue’s iron ore rail operations.

 

This position is based in Port Hedland, on an 8:6 roster and will work collaboratively with the project delivery teams to ensure compliance to DTI policies/procedures and statutory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Support operations to execute DTI and client HSE initiatives.
  • Effective implementation of DTI HSE policy, procedures & standards through training, coaching and regular communication.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and assist with solution development and implementation.
  • Coach and support local managers to develop and review HSE management plans and risk registers, consistent with site/project needs.
  • Coach operational teams with sub-contractor management requirements including review of SWMS, ATWPs, completion of DTI and site inductions, participation in pre-starts, conduct of daily plant check sheets and compliance with HSEMPs.

Experience and capabilities

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety, Occupational Health, or a related field
  • Between 5-10 years of experience as a Senior Health & Safety Advisor in the Rail industry.
  • Proven experience in a similar role within the Tier 1 construction and rail maintenance industry, preferably with experience dealing with WA resource clients.
  • Able to evaluate information quickly, identifying key issues and formulate conclusions based on sound, practical judgement, experience and common sense.
  • Ability to work under broad direction, exercise initiative and be innovative in the approach to problem solving.
  • Lead ICAM Incident Investigation or similar required
